Richard Stephen Terhaar, 71, of Dodson, Montana passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 doing what he loved to do.
Rick was born February 7,1953 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Herbert and Ramona Terhaar. Rick attended Grand Rapids High School. Just out of high school, Rick joined the United States Army. Following an Honorable discharge from the Army, Rick was united in marriage to Ellen Waters on December 12,1981. He worked for the Itasca Nursing Home doing maintenance, AAA trailer sales, Burlington Northern railroad and then opened Rick’s Small Engine Repair where he worked until his “retirement” in 2009 when he and Ellen moved to Dodson, Montana. Rick continued his passion of fixing things at his home in Dodson.
Rick loved to hunt, fish, repair engines, shoot pool, get together with friends to play cards, and help his many friends on their ranches in Montana. He was a founding member of the End of the Trail Deer camp in Minnesota.
Rick is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Herbert and Marcella Terhaar, his mother and stepfather, Ramona and Rodney Fuller, brothers Daniel and Alan Terhaar, a stepbrother, Jerome Fuller and brothers-in-law, Bob Hollom, Mark Freeburg and Lloyd Kimber.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ellen Terhaar; daughter and son in law Autumn and Tom Nelson; son and daughter in law Stephen Terhaar and Becky Kostka; granddaughter Ellee Nelson; sisters Cheryl Hollom and Bev (Paul) Peterson; brother Jerome (Lorraine) Terhaar; Stepsisters Kathie Crowe and Sharon Kimber and stepbrother John (Terrie)Fuller; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous good friends.
There will be a visitation with military honors at the Wilderness Funeral Home in Malta, Montana on Monday, June 3 from 2:00-4:00PM. There will be a visitation in Grand Rapids, Minnesota at a later date.
