Nicholas William Yonko, age 79, of Havre died at his home surrounded by his family on April 24, 2025. Surviving Nicholas are his children Ginny Yonko Haddy, Nick Yonko, Stephanie Chia, and his ex-wife Ana Neuwerth Yonko. Nicholas is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
After serving for 7 years in the US Air Force, Nick worked as a municipal Police Officer, a railroad Special Agent and a Registered Nurse before retiring.
Nick took pride in his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known to them by many names including Pop, Poppy, Popster, and Babu. He spent most of his time after retirement planting and nurturing trees, observing local wildlife, planning projects for family visits, building things and fixing things. He loved dogs and had a special place in his heart for the extended family’s pets. He had an amazing mind for history, trivia and facts making him almost unbeatable at Trival Pursuit and Scrabble.
Popster was well loved by his family and will be missed.
