Myrtle Hould Obituary

The day was August 14, 1923 when Myrtle Selma Ramberg entered the world. On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, a mere 101 years later, on a cold and windy morning, she whispered to Jesus, “I am ready, take me home.” Myrtle grew up with nine siblings in a house that was filled with love and warmth, which was welcomed because the walls were thin and the insulation lacking in the homestead shack they called “home” in Loring, Montana. She was born to Sam and Hannah Ramberg and lived, roamed, and loved the prairies and the great blue skies of Montana. Her younger days were spent, like many of her age, receiving her education in a one-room school house that made for its own deposit of memories. A dashing young man, Denver Hould, won her heart and he placed a wedding band on her hand on February 7, 1943 in Malta, Montana. The bond was broken on Dec. 24, 1999, when Denver headed home to tend sheep with The Shepherd himself. From the union, Denver and Myrtle were blessed with four children; Beverly (Pat) Comstock, Harold “Butch” (Karen), Sid (Kari) and Byron (Martina). They lived their life in the Wagner and South Wagner communities. Myrtle was involved in the Sacred Heart Parish Altar Society of Dodson and the Friendly Neighbors Club at South Wagner. Myrtle and Denver loved to travel to visit the Comstock family and their travels took them to New Zealand and Canada.

Their family grew with the birth of their grandchildren: Ian (Lindsay) Comstock of Billings, Shawna (Eric) Nickisch of Billings; Nate (Stacie) Hould of Huntley, John Hould, Joe (Jill) Hould, of Malta; Janine (Spike) Tuss of Malta, Shannon (Shaun) Stroh of Dickinson, Sarah (Craig) Johnson of Red Rock, AZ, Preston (Kim) Hould of Marana, AZ & NM, Scott (Corrine) Hould of Malta; Sam (Keely) Hould, Jamie (Erin) Hould, and Danielle (Jason) Venn all of Miles City, MT. The tree of life has long strong branches and on the branches are the names of her thirteen grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. And, as one of her favorite sayings went, “one’s on the way!”

One of life’s toughest and most dreaded challenges is having to bury your children and Myrtle held strong in faith as she bid farewell to Beverly and Pat, Butch and Sid. Also earning their wings before her were great-granddaughters Hannah and Olivia Hould and great-grandson Justin Lee. She was the only living sibling of the family of ten, as well. She and Denver celebrated their 82nd anniversary on February 7th, and it was “heavenly” to be together again.

There are a multitude of words to describe Myrtle, and “friend” and “faithful” would be two strong ones. She was known for her baking skills and work in the garden and flowers. The grandkids and great grandkids will remember her for her donuts, pickles, cinnamon rolls, hugs, gentleness and prayers that carried everyone through life. Even at 101 years she was able to live at home, with the constant flow of friends and family that entered her doors. She recently had a goal and that was the make it to one of her great-granddaughters’ basketball games and she was able to make it on Jan. 30th in a game that went into overtime and added to her enjoyment. She was able to watch both Molly and Denvyr and cheered from the bleachers like she was 25! And she had plans for travel and visiting that will have to be changed. When the Master calls you by name, consider it a special honor and respond.
