Marti Dean Genereux passed away May 2, 2024 at Big Sandy Medical Center following a recent diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. His reserved nature kept his diagnosis a secret while he lived his last few months happily in his home and at the cherished Big Sandy Medical Center.
Marti was born at Northern Montana Hospital, February 9, 1959, to Walter and Deana (Hurd) Genereux. He was their first-born farmer on the Genereux farm and was followed by four siblings, Cinda, Brock, Darin, and Theresa.
Growing up, Marti was active in St. Margaret Mary’s church, school wrestling, and Boy Scouts of America, but mainly helped his parents and grandparents with wheat farming and raising cattle. In his young adulthood he enjoyed riding out into the pastures on his Triumph motorcycle and playing pinochle, especially with his late Uncle Guy. He ventured out to Seattle for a few years, also lived in Thermopolis, Wy, while raising a family with former wife, Cindy (Walston); but ultimately returned to his hometown Big Sandy.
Marti had various service jobs over the years to include building construction, maintenance, cook, sales associate, and he was often regarded as a creative problem solver and meticulous cleaner. Most who met Marti adored his candid and playful personality, and those who stopped by his house, knew he had a love for music because the radio on his porch and in his garage were always on (not just a rodent deterrent).
When Marti retired, he took pride in caring for the community by mowing parks and the cemetery, picking up trash and weeds. He created a park, Hill Park, just north of the BSHS football field, where he planted trees and maintained a flowered sitting area. Marti would be delighted to have citizens visit and enjoy Hill Park for years to come.
He was preceded in death by his father Walter Genereux. He is survived by his mother Deana Genereux; children, Shawn (Chad) Hill, Kirsten (Tyler) Gilead; grandchildren, Sharlise Hill, Preston Hill, Aidreannika Gilead, KeyaHwnna Gilead, Kyler Gilead; and his four siblings, Cinda (Robin) Pearson, Brock (Cruz) Genereux, Darin (Lisa) Genereux, and Theresa (Andy) Zook.
A small, private memorial ceremony will occur later this year courtesy cremation by Wilderness Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials in honor of Marti may be made to the Big Sandy Medical Center, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
