Louis Shambo

Louie Shambo, 91 left this earth to be with our loving creator on October 24, 2020 due to COVID Complications at the Advanced Care Hospital in Billings, Mt. Louie was born on October 14, 1929 to Ed Shambo and Cecelia Sleeping Bear Shambo. He was born and raised in Hays and attended school at St. Paul’s Mission. He worked for the Ft. Belknap Housing department as a maintenance work. *He purchased a school bus to travel back and forth from Hays to Harlem to work and also this helped his friends get to work. He charged $1.00 for a ride so he was the 1st transit bus driver for Hays.* He worked for BLM and later for Hays-Lodge Pole school as a bus driver/janitor. From the time his kids/grandkids started sports he was known as the #1 H-LP fan up to the day he left to be with the Love of his life Jean. You could see him at all the games cheering on the players of both teams. You could always count on seeing him in the crowd with a smile on his face enjoying the game. Louie married Jean Mae Jones-Shambo in 1951 and their union was blessed with 10 children along with raising 1 grandson CM and 1 great-granddaughter Kenessa. Louie enjoyed being with all his 131 family members and playing horseshoes which he had a few ringers in every game he played. When it came time to pick names for teams during tournaments you could hear people say “be Louie, be Louie...” he also loved to play poker with family and friends at his house which the games would go well into the early mornings. Every year at the family camp during the Hays pow-wow you could find a good game of poker going on. He loved his evening drive where he would meet up with the Wild Bunch at the secret beer garden and visit. Another love of his life was hunting with his family and friends. One of the best things for him was to go on a big family hunting trip. “One of his last wishes was a request to have his family go on a big family hunting trip together in memory of him.” One reason we knew he loved hunting was on opening day of hunting season, he left this earth to go to the great hunting grounds above to hunt with his family that have left before him. Louie is survived by his children: Daughters Sherry Shambo, Janice (John) Brockie, Debra (John) Hawley, Sandy (Stan) Zander, Kay (Ken) Morin, all of Hays. Sons Louis (Jeannette) Shambo of West Palm Beach, FL and Anthony (Mikkie) Shambo, Reno (Petrina) Shambo, Craig (Sherry) Shambo, and the 2 grandkids he helped raise CM (Velvet) Werk, Kenessa (Cory Stiffarm Jr) Shambo all of Hays. Sister Sophie LaTray of Chinook, Mt. Louie had 36 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews of whom he loved all of them. Preceding him in death is the Love of his Life his wife Jean Mae “Jones” Shambo, Loving son John Shambo and grandsons, Chad Shambo, John Edger Brockie, Shawn Shambo and Swede Shambo, Jordan Shambo, his parents Ed and Cecelia Sleeping Bear-Shambo and brothers Edgar Shambo, Frankie Shambo. Arrangements have been made with Wilderness Funeral Home of Chinook
