Kermit Horn Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kermit Gene Horn, Walks on the Clouds, a proud member of the Fort Belknap Assiniboine Tribe. Kermit, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on March 26, 2025.
Kermit was born on December 7, 1956, in Fort Belknap, Montana, to Elizabeth Jackson and Gilbert Horn Sr. He graduated from Harlem High School and pursued higher education in Minnesota, where he developed a deep appreciation for wheelchair basketball. In the late 1980’s, Kermit returned home to Fort Belknap, where he settled down to raise his family with his love Andrea Castillo.
Throughout his life, Kermit found fulfillment in serving his community. He worked as a tribal health director, coach for Fort Belknap College, time keeper at Harlem High School, Fort Belknap Casino board member, Fort Belknap College Board of Directors, and Fort Belknap Tribal Councilman, which he served for 2 terms.
Kermit’s greatest joy was his family. Kermit’s family wrote: “Kermit’s love for his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews meant the world to him. He dedicated his time to the community through sports, insight, and always lending a hand to everyone.”
Kermit is survived by his sons, Felix and Kayden (Goldenboy) Castillo; daughters Morgan and Kelsey Horn; granddaughters Amare, Alimeda, Zavah, Kelayla, Farrah, Cassidy, Leia, Leela, Zara, and Aurora; grandsons Andrew, Clint, Cyrus, Wayne Jr., and Kylo; siblings Walter (Lisa), Charlie, Donald (Late Fluff), Curtis (Ramona), Margaret (Dave), and Willowa Horn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and of course Kobe.
Kermit is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Leah; his parents Elizabeth and Gilbert; brothers Wayne Herschel and John Bearcub (Cowdust); sister Merna Spottedbear; and grandson Ethan.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Red Whip in Fort Belknap. Kermit will be laid to rest alongside his loved ones at the Horn Cemetery on the Fort Belknap Reservation.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
