Julie King-Kulbeck Obituary

Julie Roberta King-Kulbeck was born on August 25, 1958, to Ramona Werk King and Robert M. King, Sr. at Fort Belknap, Montana. She attended schools in Hays and later moved to Fort Belknap Agency, where she attended Harlem Public Schools. At 13, Julie developed a strong work ethic while working as a secretary at the Tribal Office. She briefly attended boarding school with her cousins, Gig and Ione, but returned home after five weeks, having a savings for enough money for a plane ticket. Julie resumed high school at Harlem, where she met her future husband, Charlie Kulbeck, in 1975. She graduated and attended Eastern Montana College in Billings. Her first child, Edward, was born in 1977. In 1979, Julie and Charlie began their life together with Ed in a small home along the Milk River. They married in February 1983 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Their son Alan was born in 1986, followed by their daughter Lacey in 1989. Julie had a long career with the Fort Belknap Tribes, working in various roles, including the Manpower Program, Alcohol Detox, the Education Department, Head Start, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Tribe. She also served as the Diabetes Prevention Program Manager. After 37 years and 7 months with the Fort Belknap Tribe and 2 years and 5 months with the BIA, she retired in May 2018, totaling 40 years of service. Julie and Charlie fulfilled their lifelong dream of building a home at Bear Gulch, which was completed in February 2020, and they moved in June 2020. In retirement, Julie enjoyed gardening, crafting, and traveling to Indian Relay Races. She passed away on September 4, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Kulbeck, of Harlem; her children, Edward (Lisa) Kulbeck of Harlem, Alan (Chris) Kulbeck of Big Warm, Lacey (Derrick Guy) of Harlem; her grandsons, Darrius Kulbeck of Missoula, Adrian (Elyssia) Kulbeck of Fort Belknap Agency, Urijah Wolf Child, Leon and Lucas Guy of Harlem; her great-grandchildren, Everett and Ellyse Kulbeck; her sisters, Janice Singer of Hardin, Judy (Frank Fox) King of Fort Belknap, June (Donovan) Bull In Sight of Fort Belknap; her brothers, Kim (Christine) King of Lolo, Michael “Mitchell” (Tracy Rose) King of Bear Gulch, Tracy “Ching” (Anna) King of Fort Belknap, Keith (Tammy) King, Sr. of Billings, Harvey King of Hays; her sisters-inlaw, Martha J. King and Holly Allen-King; numerous nieces and nephews, greatnieces and nephews who considered her their grandma, and many cousins. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Ramona and Robert M. King, Sr., and her brothers, Richard King, Brent King, Sidney King, and her beloved grandson Teaunce “TJ” Brockie. She learned from her mother and father to always be kind to people and left a lasting impact on those she met, especially her family. We apologize if anyone has been forgotten; our family is large, and Julie meant a lot to many people she met throughout her life.
