John H Hebbelman Jr, a third-generation farmer; and pilot, was born on September 23, 1943, and flew to the heavens on February 6, 2023. He was the first of two, born to John and Doris Hebbelman.
John grew up 15 miles from the Chinook area, graduating from Chinook High School in 1961. John and his dad partook in pilot lessons receiving their pilot’s licenses’ together. Soon after, John began flying to high school, a five-minute flight instead of a 20-minute drive. In his early married life with Gina, he began crop spraying. There are untold acres sprayed and flying time logged over the course of 52 years. John's lifetime accomplishments are many. He was a Polaris snowmobile representative, a wheat farmer, member of the Blaine County School board in Chinook, a certified flight instructor for both single and multi-engines, an airframe and power plant mechanic, helicopter operator, contracted with FWP’s to hunt coyote for the government and various wildlife tallies. He was appointed to the Montana Aeronautical Commission under Governor Babcock; he was a state EMT instructor and an EMT paramedic, while serving as a deputy reserve for the Sheriff's Department he also was on the ambulance crew. John has countless hours teaching others to become pilots in both Montana, Arizona, and possibly other states. He received the Master Pilot Award from the FAA in 2020. Hebbelman Flying Service, Inc was in business for 25 years. He hosted many exchange students on the Hebbelman Farm, he flew books and food supplies to the Gist Ranch on the Missouri River, was a member of the Lions, Eagles, Jaycees, and the FFA. In his snowmobile days, he raced from Eureka, MT to West Yellowstone, MT.
John was blessed with a daughter and a son of which his daughter, KariLi (Pat) survives him. John grieved from the early loss of his son, Curtis, throughout his life. In his more mature years, he married Angela. For 18 years, they enjoyed many adventures, motorcycling together with numerous friends from Montana, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Canada and Mexico. John took flight to the heavens, unexpectedly from the runway of earth, leaving behind Angie, wife of 13 years; his daughter, KariLi (Pat), grandsons, Sean, and Dylan, along with many other family members.
John is. Because he was an organ donor, the eagle eye lives on! The family would like all to know that even though John leaves behind the many friends he held dear, they wish for you to carry him in your hearts until the day you meet him again.
