Joe Palm Obituary

Joe Steven Palm, Phillips County native, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, June 20, 2020. Joe was known for his charming smile and gift for gab. He never knew a stranger.

 

He was born February 23, 1949 in Glasgow, MT to Herman Benjamin and Gertrude Josephine (Kappel) Palm. He was the youngest of 4 children. He spent his formative years in Saco, Glasgow, Bozeman and Hinsdale.

He graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1967. He attended Montana State University. In1968 he married Patricia Ann (Patty) Potter. She passed away in 1968.

In 1977 he married Lynne Ann Peterson. They later divorced. They had two sons, Steven (Steve) and Robert (Rob).

 

Joe was a natural born salesman. He worked for Parker Montana in Billings. Zerbe Brothers in Glasgow, Malta Auto, & a farm implement company in Minot ND.

 

Joe was an accomplished pool player, winning many tournaments including the1985 North Dakota singles championship.  He owned a pool hall in Minot, ND for a period of time, before returning to MT.

 

In 2009, he purchased OB’s Bar in Saco. He renamed it Old Brand Saloon in honor of his family’s cattle brand K4. He enjoyed being a business owner and always looked for opportunities to support the Saco community.

Prior to his death, Joe was united with a son, Gary Suits.

 

Joe was proudest of his sons and their accomplishments. He was supportive of his nieces and nephew and enjoyed hearing about their various accomplishments and adventures.

 

Joe is survived by his sons and their families: Garey (Shelley) Suits (Trevor, Jenna, Justin), Johnstown CO; Dr. Steve (Stacey) Palm (Nora, Charlotte) Woodbury, MN; and Rob (Toni) Palm (Lexi, Brady), Tooele, UT.

He is also survived by his brother Dr. Paul (Pat) Palm, Portland, OR.

 

He will be greatly missed by his nephew Kris (Ann) Palm, Portland OR; nieces Julian (Lucas) Cogdill, Casper WY; Jenny (Jeremy) Ray, Heber City UT, and Kim (Jay) MacEachern, Mesquite NV.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Palm (1968), his father Herman Palm (1956),sister Maribelle (1951), mother Gertrude (2008) and sister Rosalie Kuster. (2018).

Cremation has taken place. He will be buried next to his first wife Patty in the Saco Cemetery.

 

Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2020 @ 4:00PM, followed by a Celebration of Life for family and friends at the Old Brand Saloon.
