Jarold Ernest Schmidt, 83, was born in Bowman, North Dakota in 1939 to Ernie and Delight Schmidt. The family relocated to Lewistown, Montana in his youth, where they assisted Delight’s family on the PN Ranch. Jarold graduated from Fergus High School, in Lewistown, in 1958. Jarold joined the US Army Reserve, after high school. Jarold, with his brothers, farmed the 79 Ranch, where he met his future wife, Lynn Pegar.
Jarold attended and received his bachelor’s degree from Montana State University-Bozeman in 1971, majoring in Commerce, with emphasis in Distributive Education. Jarold, along with his growing family, owned and operated a trout farm, “Jarold’s Mountain Best,” in the 1980’s, but he devoted the majority of his career to Big Bud Tractors. Jarold was well known at Big Bud for his extensive knowledge and expertise, helping clients worldwide. Jarold officially retired from Big Bud in 2001.
Jarold was known for his boisterous personality and love of family. Jarold was immensely proud of his family and never failed to let others know. Jarold enjoyed hunting, fishing, road trips, playing pinochle, and science fiction of all types.
Jarold Ernest Schmidt, 83, passed peacefully at Benefis Peace Hospice, in Great Falls, Montana, on November 10, 2022. Jarold was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers (Stanley Schmidt and Jimmy Schmidt), half-brothers (Bill Place, Bob Place, Jackie Place), grandson (Deyvon Schmidt), and step-grandson (Dyllan Murray). He is survived by Lynn (Pegar)Schmidt, sons Jeremy, Jaymes, daughters Lareina, Lindsay, grandchildren Zachary, Holly, Gillian, Koolen, Ashlyn, and Dalton, as well as siblings Lavern Schmidt, JoWayne Huestis, and many additional loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 14, 2023 at Big Equipment Co. in Havre, MT.
