James Edward Robinson, 90, of Malta, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, peacefully at home. James was born on January 28, 1935, in Cheyenne, WY to Floyd and Emily (Colgate) Robinson; the youngest of eight children. His family ranched at Wright, Wyoming until James was four years old. Then a ranch was purchased near Miles City, MT. He graduated from Custer County High School in 1953. He then enlisted in the Army and went to Korea. When he returned from Korea he worked on the family ranch, until he married Maralee Paul. James met Maralee when he was working on a dude ranch (Roaring Brook) in Lake George, NY. Maralee is from Hadley, NY and was attending a dance at the dude ranch when they met. They married in Miles City in 1965. After marriage James worked as a brand inspector in Billings. Then they moved to the Lazy JD Ranch at Zortman, MT. In 1993 he and Maralee purchased the Mill Iron Ranch near Malta, MT. His life as a Rancher revolved around cattle, horses, dogs, hard work – and a handshake was a commitment that shouldn’t be broken.
