George Steckel

George Alexander Steckel, age 84, was born on October 23rd, 1940, and passed away in Havre on November 17th, 2024, following an extended illness. George was born to George Reed Steckel (D: 4.23.1986) and Dorothy Mae Shaneberger (D: 11.12.2003) of Easton, PA as an only child. George entered the AirForce as a military policeman stationed in Texas, Colorado and eventually in Spokane, WA. George met Frances Danell in 1961 in Spokane, Washington. They got married in Spokane and were devoted to each other for 56 years, truly believing, "'Til death do us part." George left the military and with Frances, made a brief stop in Easton, PA before moving to Havre, MT to raise their three sons.

George and Frances spent decades loving and raising their family. George worked for the Havre School District and Frances worked at the Great Northern Railway. They spent lots of time attending their sons' sporting events, camping, hunting, fishing and other family activities. George loved tinkering with and restoring old cars. When their sons married and had children of their own, they loved nothing more than spending time with the grandkids.

George had a sharp, quick and caustic wit and could be merciless with people that did not get him. You either loved him or avoided him. If you got to know him you know he had a big heart, loved Frances, his kids, grandkids and Smokey, his big German Shepherd. George is preceded in death by his wife Frances who passed away on February 15th, 2017, and is survived by his sons Scott - Boise, ID, Rip (Carla) – Tacoma, WA and Powell (Melony) – Havre, MT and their children and grandchildren.

A private family burial will be held later in May of 2025 at Highland Cemetery in Havre, MT.
