Gary Hofer

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Gary Hofer, January 5th 2026 at the age of 67, the day before his birthday. He passed away at the Great Falls hospital due to a stroke. Gary was surrounded by his wife and loving family at the time of his passing, where he was greeted by loved ones who went before him.

Gary was born January 6, 1958, in Lewistown, MT to Paul and Anna Hofer. As a young child, he moved with his family to Turner, MT where he lived until his passing.

On July 3rd, 1988, Gary married the love of his life, Esther Hofer. They were together for 37 wonderful years. Soon after he got married, Gary was elected “Field boss,” a job he loved and enjoyed until his passing. Gary loved when seeding and harvest season came around. He took great pride in driving his combine and truck, making sure Esther had a good lunch and supper planned for the crew. Gary enjoyed going fishing and sitting on the swing during the summer with family and friends. He loved to help Tim and Jim grade eggs every afternoon.

Gary and Esther took great pleasure in raising their nephew, Timmy, as their own. Where Esther was, there was Gary.

Leaving to mourn and miss him are his loving wife Esther, and Timmy, Mother, P. Anna (of Turner); sisters, Anne (of Turner) and Dora (of Havre); brother, Walter (Barbara) of Turner; sister-in-laws Marie (Paul) and Theresa (David) of Turner. Gary leaves behind his wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Paul and brothers, Paul, David, and baby brother Ben.

Gary will live on in the wonderful memories of those who knew and loved him. Until we meet again.
