Florence Fox Obituary

Our beloved mother, Florence "Flossy" Fox, was born on Monday, June 8, 1942 at the Fort Belknap Indian Hospital in Harlem, MT to Ruth Powderface Fox and Henry Fox, Sr. Our mama was reunited with Jesus and her family on the beautiful early morning of Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in her home in Hays, MT.

Florence "Flossy", grew up in Hays, MT on the southern end of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. She attended boarding schools most of her young life, including graduating high school from Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, South Dakota. Florence went on to attend Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS and received her 1 year cooking certificate.

Florence returned home to Montana where she made her home next to her father's home, just across the way. Flossy had her 4 children during this time. Florence worked for the Hays/Lodge Pole School District as an Assistant Cook for 22 years. She worked with Leona Fox for the majority of this time and also Mary Bigleggins and Marjorie Chandler.

Florence loved her home. She took pride in the cleanliness of her house and keeping her yard cut and nice looking. She loved knick knacks and obtaining magnets for her fridge from all over the states. Her house always smelled so clean and was so comfortable. She also had pets that she enjoyed feeding everyday.

Florence was a very generous person. Flossy was known to give people blankets and star quilts and other gifts to families that needed them in their times of need. Flossy also was generous with her time, cooking for many families and community events. She was known for her soups and bread. She was a great cook. Flossy also loved to feed her family and grandchildren. She would be constantly cooking all day long and make sure you never left her house hungry.

Flossy was a foster grandparent for the Hays Headstart Program in Hays, MT for many years.

She and her sister, Elizabeth, would be seen heading up the road to go love up all the little babies at the headstart. She would always talk about how much she enjoyed being a foster grandma and seeing all the little babies daily.

Florence "Flossy" was preceded in death by her parents, Henry, Sr. & Ruth Fox, siblings Melvin Fox, Ronald Fox, Henry Cody Fox, Jr, her beloved sister, Elizabeth Fox Doney, granddaughter, Carli Marie Werk, and daughter in law, Martha Ball Fox.
