Edward Whitecow-LaVallie Obituary

Edward George Whitecow-LaVallie “Red Spirit Wolf” passed away February 1, 2026 at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, MT. A wake will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Belknap, Wednesday, February 4th, at 5:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM. The second night of the wake will be held at Mission Rec Center in Hays, Thursday, February 5th, at 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Mission Church in Hays, Friday, February 6th, at 11:00 AM.

Edward was born May 30, 1956 in Fort Belknap, MT. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1976. Edward lived in various places around Montana throughout his life and worked many different jobs. He lived in Missoula, Helena, and the Arapahoe Ranch in Wyoming. He moved back to Fort Belknap in 2011. He was a long-time ranch hand for the McCanns, worked as a firefighter, Campcrew Boss, and worked in house keeping as well as other various jobs. He was Top hand in everything he did.

Edward was always involved in his spiritual and traditional ways, and was an alter boy for St. Paul’s Mission. He also enjoyed art and was a talented artist. Edward loved his grandchildren, nephews, nieces, siblings, and all children. He had a good sense of humor and was very generous. He had empathy and compassion for all people, no matter the race or nationality.

Edward is survived by children Marlon Lawrence (Bethany), Trevor Standingrock, Lil’ Tyke LaVallie, Katina Standingrock, Rhea Standingrock; siblings Joan Johnson (Stanley), Alvinlee Talks Different (Alrita), Ralph Talks Different (Missy), Ira Talks Different, Lena Horn (Dan), Virgil Talks Different, Gene Talks Different (Candy), Esther Talks Different (Byard); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; special friend Lori; paternal aunts Caroline Brown, Barbara Stiffarm, Moni Messerly; maternal aunts Catherine Longknife, and Mary Whitecow.

Edward is preceded in death by his son Mitchell Randy LaVallie; sisters Georgia Lee “Crysie” LaVallie, Carol Ann “Puddy” LaVallie; brother Sherman Joseph LaVallie Sr.; nephew Richard Daniel Horn, Damien James Gone; niece Everly Lucia Iwen; parents Helen Marie Whitecow Talks Different and George LaVallie “Bucking Horse Sweat”; step dad Alvin “Cubby” Talks Different; paternal grandparents Robert and Estelle Mount; maternal grandparents Joseph and Josephine Whitecow.

Tyke has a huge family from Whitecow, Mount, Brisbo, Bushyhead, LaVallie, and Talks Different. If we missed anyone, it was not our intention.
