Diane Clare Werk (Biikóóúh íisto ‘unéøaa’) “Night Strike” passed into the spirit world June 21, 2024. She was born on January 17, 1957 to Luella and Elwood “Woody” Werk. She was raised in Hays, MT. Diane attended Riverside Indian School but returned to Hays Lodgepole School where she maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated as the valedictorian.
Diane was raised within a large immediate and extended family and was exposed to the Aaniih customs and beliefs. Throughout her lifetime she maintained these cultural traits by helping people, assisting, planning, and being active in many cultural activities. Diane loved listening to music. She loved to laugh, tell stories, and visit with her many friends from near and far. Diane also liked to design and sew star quilts. A skill that has been passed to the next generation.
Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the most important people in her life. She loved them all so much and she did everything for them.
Diane worked as a CHR for the tribe. As a dental assistant for HIS and as a resident caregiver at New Horizons. She also attended SKC and graduated with a nursing degree before returning to Halftown in Fort Belknap.
Diane is survived by her daughters Billy Werk and Tara Werk; grandchildren Alanna, Cameron, ShyLyn, Tayson, Isabella, Thomeya, Wade, Thayne, Jonaye; great grandchildren Teagan, Anaakya, Haniwiyanpa, Wade Jr., Tommy, Aubriana, Les, Eli, Skyla, Paxcyn, Paidyn, Aeliana, Adaline; siblings June, Anna Faye, Charlotte, Evan, Lawrence, and Joe.
Diane is preceded in death by Billy’s dad William C. Bell; brother David Bell; grandson Lane Doney; parents Luella and Elwood “Woody” Werk; brother mike; and sisters Lila and Jeannie.
A wake will be held June 24, 2024 at 7:00 PM and a funeral service will be held June 25, 2024 at 2:00 PM with a burial to follow at Bell Family Cemetery. Services will be held at Redwhip in Fort Belknap.
