Derek James Davis

Derek James Davis of Malta, MT passed away at the age of 40 on August 14th, 2025 in a tragic car accident. Derek was born on November 15th, 1984 to Stanley and Cindy Davis and his sister Shannon and brother Luke. Living life to his fullest he loved working on his cars with his father, hunting and fishing backcountries with his friends and family, and lending a helping hand or ear to friends or strangers alike. Derek graduated from Malta HS in 2003, where he excelled in wrestling and making memories with his friends. He attended college for a brief time, before moving back to Malta and starting to date the love of his life Megan Ereaux. Derek married Megan on July 5th 2008. After beginning their life together they moved briefly to Colorado, then Cascade MT before returning home to their roots in Malta, MT. He and Megan then welcomed their kids Karsten, Lettie, and Sonnie in the years to follow, completing his family with his many beloved 4 legged friends. While he was an avid outdoorsmen who loved hunting, fishing, or anything with cars, his greatest love was for that of his family especially his “challenge camping” trips with his kids. Derek was fully immersed in his community, known and loved by many. From owning his own business, to volunteering at the fire department, to being the biggest “little” guy on the wrestling mat anyone that knew him has their own “Derek” story. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his smile, quick wit, suspenders and kind heart.

Derek was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Patricia and Floyd Davis, maternal grandparents Lorna and Les Solberg and Elmo Simonson, his cousin Michael Davis, and dear friend Casey Brewer. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Megan and their children Karsten, Lettie, and Sonnie Davis; his parents Stan and Cindy Davis; his sister Shannon (Nick) Oxarart; brother Luke (Becca) Spencer; mother and father in law Mike and Nancy Ereaux; sister in law Katey (Wes) Marquis, brother in law Mitch (Kendra) Ereaux; nieces and nephews Avi and Rio (Oxarart), AJ and Thatcher (Marquis), Grayson, Gabby and Douglas (Ereaux), Lane, Cameron, Fletcher and Jack (Spencer); along with many cherished extended family members and dear friends who will carry his stories, laughter, and spirit forward.

A wake will be held on Wednesday August 20th, 2025 at 7p.m. in the Malta High School “Old” gym. Please bring your hot rods to the wake as immediately following we will be “cruising the drag” in honor of Derek’s love for cars and cruising. The funeral will be on held Thursday August 21st, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in the Malta High School “Old gym” with reception to immediately follow at the “old” armory in Malta, MT. Monetary donations can be dropped off to the First State Bank of Malta or the Malta Volunteer Fire Department.
