Charlotte Nelson Obituary

Charlotte Louise Nelson, 96, passed into eternal life while residing at the BeeHive Assisted Living and Memory Care Home, Cortez, Colorado on January 18, 2023.

Family and friends of Charlotte Nelson are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service for Charlotte, which will be held at the Evangelical Church of North American, Harlem Montana on February 7, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held immediately after at the Harlem Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Church immediately following the graveside service.

Charlotte was born on December 26, 1926 to Christine Schiffbauer Craft and W. Wilfred Craft in Rices Landing, PA. To this family, two sisters were also born, Laura and Janet, who would accompany Charlotte as she journeyed through life. Charlotte graduated from Brownsville High School and attended three years at the Brownsville Hospital School of Nursing in Brownsville. It was in 1947 she was selected for an internship at the Fort Belknap Hospital as a staff nurse. As the story goes, she was introduced to a handsome young man named Omer Nelson and the rest is history. They were married on June 30, 1947 and spent the next sixty-three years together…(and ‘they’ said it would never last!) To their union was born a son, William Andrew Nelson, on November 14, 1952.

Charlotte worked for the next 10 years at the Fort Belknap Hospital and another 10 years at the Hays Clinic serving the needs of those communities. She later joined Omer in the ownership and daily operation of the Coast-to-Coast Store in Harlem where they both retired and became ‘snowbirds’, traveling from Montana to Arizona to be close to their son and family and Charlotte’s sister, Laura. In 2002, they made Phoenix, AZ their permanent home.

Charlotte was an active member of the O.E.S. (Order of Eastern Star) in 1961 where she served as Worthy Grand Matron in the chapters 50th anniversary year of 1967. She was appointed to Montana Grand Chapter as Grand Electa in 1969 and was Grand Chaplain in 1977. She shared her voice and talent of singing as being a soloist in community functions, numerous memorial services and in her church, Evangelical Church of North America. She also participated in Sunday School as secretary and teacher and was active in Evangelical Women’s Missionary Society.

Charlotte is survived by her three grandchildren, Amber Bartle (Jamie), Erik Nelson and Shane Nelson (Cheri) and by her ten great grandchildren: Andrew, Jaden, Gavin & Gunner Bartle (Amber) Kayla Ray, Grant Andrew, Cason Richard and Emree Charlotte Nelson (Erik) William and Trenton Nelson (Shane) She is also survived by her nieces, Margo Lee and daughter Ashley Felipe (Joey) and three children whom she also considered to be her great grandchildren: Paityn, Talan and Zoe; and Marsha Berry (Rex) and daughter Danielle (Adam) , and their daughter , Echo and; Janet Embry, son Levi and; Donnie and Rita Richman – How do you measure such family and friendship but through the love that is shown. Donnie and Rita along with their children, Heather and Heath were family to Omer and Charlotte, sharing many of life’s experiences.
