Brian Scheffelmear Obituary

Brian Leo Scheffelmear, of Malta Montana went to meet his creator on February 12, 2026.

Brian was born to Leo and Kitty (Carol Jean Young) Scheffelmear on January 31, 1957, in Glasgow Montana. He was one of two children at that time; there would end up being eight children in total. The family lived in Joplin Mt. for a short time moving to Malta 1968. Brian grew up on a farm just south of Malta. In his youth he participated in 4H and FFA and showed steers at Phillips County Fair. During High School he played football all 4 years.

After graduating in 1975 Brian enlisted in the Montana National Guard. He went to boot camp early in 1976. After returning to Malta, he married Joann Ferrell of Malta in 1977 and moved to Shelby Mt. They were married for 7 seven years. He then Married Grace Moore of Shelby Mt. and moved to Downey, California. Brian lived in California until Grace passed in 2007, He then moved to Boisie ID. Where he reconnected with Joann, his ex-wife. They became very good friends. He then moved Back to Malta in 2012. He lived with and worked for Ed & Terri Bibeau south of Malta until his passing.

Brian was an avid reader. He read 3 to 5 books per week mostly military thrillers. He loved animals and animals loved him. He was one of the gentlest people you could hope to meet. Brian liked visiting. Everyone who talked to Brian soon realized he was hard to understand. However, if you took the time and effort to understand him you would be rewarded with some great stories of his life. He will be missed by many more people than he probably ever could have imagined.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Kitty (Carol Jean Young) Scheffelmear, his sisters Sherri Morin of Malta, Mt, Donna (Dan) Duncan of Malta Mt, brothers Clay (Sandy) Scheffelmear of Elk City, OK, Scott (Connie) Scheffelmear of Whitewater, Mt. He is survived by Mike (Anita) Scheffelmear of Lewistown, Mt. Bill (Donna) Scheffelmear of Malta, Mt, and sister Terri (Ed) Bibeau of Malta, Mt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
