Brent King Obituary

Brent Laurence King, Wamní Ta-Guy-Ee-O (First Eagle), made his journey across the Milky Way to the Big Camp on July 13, 2024. He was born on October 4, 1967 to Ramona (Werk) and Robert “Buckskin” King, at the Fort Belknap Agency. Brent came from the No Retreat Clan. He was the youngest of eleven.

Brent grew up at the Fort Belknap Agency, and went to school in Harlem until his junior year in high school. He was athletic and was involved in football and basketball. When he moved to Hardin, he made the varsity team for basketball his senior year. After graduating from Hardin High School, Brent took some classes at Eastern Montana College, now known as MSU-Billings.

Brent enlisted in the Army, and was a part of the 314 Golden Dragons of the 10th Mountain Division, an elite light infantry division in the United States Army based at Fort Drum, New York. He was a M60 Gunner and the best in his battalion as he was deployed to Somalia, Africa in Operation Restore Hope. Brent was not allowed to return home, even when his daughter Ramona was born.

After being in the military, Brent became a police officer for the  Fort Belknap Reservation for 8 years and also worked at the IHS for 24 years.

Brent was always known for his light-hearted teasing and humor. Wherever he was, there was always a smile and a laugh. He also loved to dance Traditional and Chicken at the various powwows across the state and reservation. He loved to travel and the place he loved to travel to was the Big Island of Hawaii.

Brent also always loved being a grandpa to his brothers’ and sisters’ grandchildren. He finally became a grandpa in April 2023, to Eliza. She was his pride and joy. He visited her, every day that he was able to and they had a strong bond.

Survived by his wife, Holly Allen-King of Lodge Pole, MT, his daughters, Ramona (Zach) Lenning of Harlem, MT, Brenna (Taylor) King of Colfax, WA, his sons, Kelin “Woody” (Shay) King of Malta, MT, Bryce Stiffarm-King of Fort Belknap Agency, MT and his granddaughter Eliza Lenning. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Martha) King, Robert “Kim” (Christine) King, Michael “Mitchel” (Tracy) King, Harvey King, Keith (Tammy) King, and his sisters, Janice Singer, Julie (Charlie) Kulbeck, Judy King, and June (Donovan) BullinSight. Brent is preceded in death by his father Robert “Buckskin” King, his mother Ramona (Werk) King, his brother Sidney King, his paternal grandmother Cora “Belle” (WindChief) King and paternal grandfather Richard “Dick” King, his maternal grandmother Isabel (Gardipee) Werk and maternal grandfather Robert Werk. Please forgive us if we forgot anyone, it was not intentional.

In Brent’s own words, “I was a son of a bitch when I was alive and now that I’m dead, I’m the greatest son of a bitch you ever knew.”
