Brenetta Doney Obituary

Brenetta (Bonnie) C. Doney, resident of Havre Montana, passed away July 18th 2022 at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre Montana surrounded by family and loved ones. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Thursday July 21st, 2022 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church (440 7th Ave) in Havre Montana, With burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Havre Montana.

Bonnie was born October 19th 1944 in Havre Montana to Elizabeth and Edward Berger. She married her husband Merle (Gunny) John Doney June 4th 1966 in Chinook Montana. Gunny and Bonnie resided in North Central Montana between Havre, Hays, and Great Falls.

Bonnie spent her last 7 years living in Havre Montana with eldest son John David Doney who cared for her. Bonnie enjoyed listening to music, especially fiddle music, and going for rides out to Bears Paw park to listen to the birds and watch the wildlife. In her younger days Bonnie enjoyed tracing the genealogy of her people, especially the Berger family and the Doney family.

Bonnie is survived by her two sons John David Doney of Havre Montana and Lesley Eugene Doney of Cheney Washington, two sisters Sandra Berger of Havre Montana and Shirely Gardipee of Butte Montana, Grandchildren Dylan Doney of Missoula Montana and Halley Doney of Cheney Washington, Heather Boushie of Hays Montana, Gariann Doney of Havre Montana, Judi-Ann Doney of Rocky Boy Montana, Kole Doney of Havre Montana, Spike and his wife Ashley Birdtail of Havre Montana, Great-Grandchildren Kaine Birdtail, Cody Birdtail and Kasey Birdtail of Havre Montana, Whisper Werk, Jordan “Junior” Werk, Diamond Werk, Sky Werk, of Hayes Montana (Children of Heather).

She was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth Berger and Edward Berger, siblings Edward Berger, Loren Berger, Clifford Berger, Loretta “Red” Azure, Robert “Bob” Berger, Elizabeth “Betty” DeCelles, Helen Gardipee, Elaine Eagleman, Geraldine Berger, Ronald “Ronnie” Berger, Larry Berger.

Bonnie was a respected elder, caring mother, and an important tribe member. Her efforts were instrumental in achieving federal recognition of the Little Shell Band of Chippewa Indians. She will be deeply missed.
