Betty Duan Drugge Obituary

CHINOOK, Betty Duan Drugge 85, passed away from natural causes on Monday, January 22, 2024.

The Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chinook.  Rosary is on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., also at St. Gabriel's.

Duan was born in Havre, Montana to Robert and Cora Musgrove on February 21, 1938.  She lived east of Zurich on her parents’ farm.  She attended Zurich Elementary School and graduated from Chinook High School in 1956.

Duan married William “Bill” Drugge on August 3, 1957, in Chinook, MT.  They farmed and ranched east of Chinook, raising their three daughters.  Their valley farm included growing alfalfa hay and raising sheep and cattle for the better part of fifty years.

Duan was a 4-H leader for the Paradise Pals 4-H club, worked as a clerk at Bear Paw Livestock Auction in Chinook, worked part-time as a tax preparer during tax season for Magnuson Accounting and Clyde Brandt, CPA, both in Chinook.  She and Bill were both active in the Hi-Line Wool Pool and the Milk River Sheep Association.

Growing up with a mother who played piano, Duan enjoyed music and she loved to dance with her husband Bill at the many community dances and weddings they attended throughout their 66 years of marriage.  Duan loved to crochet, read, host large family gatherings, and spend time with her family.  She never missed watching the Olympics, with figure skating and winter sports as her favorites.  Duan raised a large vegetable garden and loved to share produce with the neighbors and would preserve quarts of tomatoes, beans, beets, and corn.  She liked making pickles and relishes too.  Later in her life, she took to completing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire on the computer.  Duan was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Cora Musgrove.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of Zurich; daughters, Deanna (Terry) Gilmore of Zurich, Shawna (Kevin) Dorwart of Glendive, MT, Melisa Drugge (Patrick) of Pendleton, OR., grandchildren, Dakotah (Michael) Bronec of Great Falls, MT, William Dorwart of Great Falls, MT, and Saige Dorwart of Rochester, MN. and one great-grandson, Oscar James Bronec.

Memorials are suggested to St. Gabriel's Catholic Church where Duan was a lifelong member.
