Betty Jo Smith passed away December 6, 2024 of natural causes at her daughter’s home in Havre, MT.
Betty was the first child born to Joe and Marj Schallenberger on May 11, 1936. She graduated from CCHS in Ekalaka, MT in 1955. She then moved to Miles City, MT where she met Don Smith and were married June 16, 1956.
Betty and Don raised 2 daughters, Janet Davison (Phil) and Sheree Leo (Steve); and 2 sons Brian Smith (Doreen) and Keith Smith (deceased).
Betty and Don spent many years as foster parents, working with over 95 children in their home.
After retiring from foster care, Betty continued to babysit children and worked with Don as his accountant for his plumbing business.
Betty enjoyed all children… fostering, babysitting, watching over grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She crocheted afghans, read, and watched TV. Betty loved the Lord and gave her life to Jesus. As she grew in the lord, she understood the value of unconditional love and giving without expectations.
Betty’s is a life to be celebrated.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet and Sheree; son Brian; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and siblings Linda, Gail, and Gary.
Betty’s husband Don; Don’s parents; son Keith; sister Waunita; and Betty’s own parents proceeded Betty in death.
