Andrew Nagy Obituary

Andy was born May 31, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Gedeon and Johanna Nagy.  He was the oldest child at home while growing up.  He was surrounded by love and family as he died peacefully in Malta on June 5, 2022.  As Bob likes to say, “He had 96 successful trips around the sun.”

When he was young he used to deliver the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.  He was very reliable and was a “super carrier” that the area supervisor would use to substitute in delivering and collecting for paper routes that were vacant until a new carrier could be found.  Fun fact, his paper route was a block away from the house used for the movie “A Christmas Story.”

Andy completed the 10th grade and during a time of financial concern started working to help the family.  He worked at Dill Manufacturing until being drafted to serve in the Army Air Corps during WWII in 1944.  He left for basic training on Labor Day that same year.  After basic training, he went to Harvard … Nebraska where he was trained to be an airplane mechanic.  When the war ended, he was stationed in Moses Lake, WA helping to close bases.

On December 1, 1956, he married the love of his life, Jeanne Porter.   In March of 1958 they welcomed their son Robert.  Andy often referred to his wife as “my Jeannie”.  He enjoyed watching TV and relaxing at home with his family.

Andy spent several more years working at Dill Manufacturing where he repaired and assembled vulcanizing machines, machines that placed heated patches on inner tubes for car tires.  That was a job that he loved and would talk about often.  He later worked at George Worthington company; a hardware wholesale company until he retired in 1989.  He was a hard-working man and a great provider for his family.

After Jeanne’s death in November 1990, he enjoyed serving as a driver for Meals on Wheels.  Being present for Bob’s ordination in July of 1993 brought Andy much joy.

In October 2011 he moved west to live in Malta, Montana.  There he enjoyed being with his son, daughter-in-law and 3 grandchildren of whom he was very proud.  He never missed his grandchildren’s school activities and events and enjoyed cheering for the Mustangs and M-ettes whenever possible.  He became very active at Malta Lutheran Church, attending services, Bible Study, and many other church activities, especially enjoying Lenten Soup suppers.  For a while he enjoyed Senior Meals and the fellowship they provided, often sitting at a table with some ladies.

Andy is survived by his son Bob and daughter-in-law Julie, 3 grandchildren: Drew (Kade), Hanna and Erika; siblings Joseph Nagy and Viola Pivnika and numerous nieces and nephews along with many friends whom he met in his later years.

Andy is preceded in death by his parents Gedeon and Johanna Nagy, beloved wife Jeanne, siblings Gedeon Weber, Charles Nagy, George Nagy, Katherine Ray, Jack Nagy and an infant sister Johanna.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Malta Lutheran Church and Hi-Line Retirement Center in his memory.
