Allie was born on March 6, 1950 in Fort Belknap Hospital to Hazel Skinner and Leo “Punch” Stiffarm. She grew up in Hays, MT where spent a lot of time in her younger years with her grandparents, Arthur and Clara Skinner in Dry Lake. Tom Mount Sr. also had a hand in raising her & cared for him in his later years. She attended Mission Grade School, Flandreau Indian School for 2 years & graduated from Harlem High School in 1968. During this time, she spent a lot of time with the late Leo Brockie, his wife Shirley and Terry and Tim. She then relocated to Billings, MT to further her education at Eastern Montana College. While she attended college, she worked for the Indian Health Service Area Office. In the late 70’s, she returned home where she continued her career in working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. From then on, she worked for the Fort Belknap Indian Community in various departments: Tribal Health, Tribal Credit, Chief Finance Officer, Head Start. She even served as an appellate Judge for Tribal Court. Prior to her job at Head Start, she worked for the Office of Head Start and served as a National Head Start Federal Fiscal Reviewer where she made lifelong friends. She retired while working as the Early Head Start Director where she was instrumental in implementing the program in all 3 locations of the reservation. Aside from her 8-5, she was the accountant for the St. Paul’s Mission Parish, served as the Secretary for the Gros-Ventre Burial Committee, Mid-Winter Fair Committee, Higher Education Committee, and served on the board for the Northwest Indian Head Start Coalition.
She met her late husband, Lyman Young, and married in 1985. Together, they continued to raise Charlie, Gary, Kari, Kyle, Russell, & Meri. Aside from her work history and volunteer work, Allie loved to travel, loved watching sports on ESPN & Son Life Broadcasting – Family Worship Center
of Jimmy Swaggart, attending local traditional ceremonies and powwows, rodeos and team ropings. She also enjoyed listening to old country gospel music. Lastly, she loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She was very instrumental in helping raise her grandkids and they all had a special place in her heart especially Kyan, KC & Alissa.
Allie is preceded in death by her grandparents, Arthur & Clara (Badroad) Skinner, Parents: Hazel Skinner-Vandall, Leo “Punch” Stiffarm & Tom Mount Sr.,; Husband: Lyman Young ; Brothers: Robert Stiffarm, Arthur “Poody” Mount; Son: Charles “Charlie Mush” Cole; Daughter: Kari LaMere; Dawnita “Scamp” Mount; Nephew: Waldren (Junior) Crows Breast;
Allie is survived by her children: Meri (Ty) Racine, Gary (Misty) LaMere, Kyle Young Sr. & Russell Young III, Adopted Son Kyan Young; Adopted Daughters: Taruha Webb, Alicia (Doug) Andersen, Thomasina (Marco) Mount, Jeanne (Jeff) CrowsBreast, Tommee Jo A. (Dave) Fox; Sisters: Lorena “Biscuit” Stiffarm, her twin Anita “Neats” (Frenchy) Weigand, Annie Kay (Gerald) Mount, Florence “Porky” (Willie) Buck & Brother Tommy Jo Mount. Grandchildren: Chelsea, Garrison, Makenna, Jeffrey, Madison, Cypres, Baby Gary, Kailey, Charles, Kaitlyn, Terrell, KC, Taleah, Kendon, Kaylahni, Hazel, Alissa, Marlee, Adalyn, Maci, Wynonna: She is also survived by 11 Great-Grandchildren.
